Out and about

I haven't added anything for a long time so I thought I'd start again. I'm doing the 365 project on flickr so there's a lot about me on that.
As I just mess about I don't do anything spectacular like some folk. Yesterday I went for a ride in the woods on my bike. It's surprising how extensive they appear to be, yet I know I'm never far from the motorway.

Well it's a long time since I posted any thing here but anyone who reads it (Hello out there ...) will know that there is more info on my doings to be found on my flickr site. It's been snowing these last couple of days and I went out on my bike in it.

I couldn't add anything because I couldn't remember my password! Or the one I thought was my password didn't work.What fun I've had since April. I've taught some moree Old Testament walk thrus but no New Testament ones yet.
I've finished the first year of the photo course that I was doing at Redhill, but I don't think that I'll go back next year.
I've just come back from the ordination of Bridget Banks to Christ Church URC and tomorrow it's Kevin's ordination as priest at St Mary's - what a weekend.

Walk Thru the New Testament

Last weekend (21 - 23 April) I went to a training session for New Testament instructors. The course was held at the Cambridge Services on the A14. We slept in the hotel, used one of the conference rooms and ate in the service station. It was all very convenient. The course was great, so much was packed into a short time. I wasn't very good at remembering the signs but it will come (I hope). Now all I need is to complete my first Walk thru the New Testament as an instructor, and I'll be qualified.

The gasman came to call

On Monday 3 April I decided that if I didn't cut back the bushes in the front garden I wouldn't be able to see out of the window! So I set to. I went into the garage to get some plastic sacks to put the cuttings in and smelt gas.
I rang British Gas who directeed me to the firm that deals with leaks. Within half an hour a man had come and verified that there was a leak but that it was coming up through the paved area in front of the garage. Soon more men came, dug a hole, cut out the faulty bit of pipe and capped it. Later that afternoon another two men came, enlarged the hole and threaded a plastic pipe inside the old steel pipe. Finally, at 9.00pm, another man came and turned the gas back on.
Over the next few days more men came, first to fill in the hole, then to replace the block paving and finally a man came to check that all was done properly and he took a photo of the finished job.
Now one would not know that anything had happened, it has been done so well.

I went up to London yesterday, Saturday 11 February, to a 'workshop' about found photographs at the Tate Modern. Actually the photographs were more that the original owners didn't have them any more. Perhaps because they didn't want them or perhaps because they had died and nobody knew about them; which I found rather sad. While I was there I went to Trafalgar Square and saw a rally against Islamophobia. It was all very orderly though there were a lot of police about. A polite young man came up to me and gave me a booklet about Mohammed.

Last Sunday I went to Leytonstone United Free Church in East London to give the congregation a taste of what's in store for them on Saturday 21 January. I hope I didn't put anyone off!
Naturally my boundless enthusiasm and ability shone through.(HEM! HEM!)

Happy New Year to all my readers (if there are any!) Here I am looking my usual cheery self in Tilgate Forest a couple of days after Christmas. As you can see it is snowing - well just about. A jolly time was had by all over the festive period, I should be writing a review of an exhibition I have visited for college, doubtles my boundless energy for such matters will get it done in time. In addition I have to take photos of objects I've found, so I've been laying in a store of drinks cans.

At East Surrey College

This photo was taken in the foyer of the college by another student, David Ramsey (a name to watch). The object of the exercise was to use flash to counteract the daylight coming through the window behind me and I feel that we succeeded. The low viewpoint was David's idea and is , I think, very effective. The shaft of light across the image appeared in one of the test shots and we thought that we would include it.

On Saturday Matthew, Louise,Morgan, Louise's Mum Jan and I went to see Father Christmas at Tulley's Farm. We had a tractor ride to his house in the woods, a story from Santa and Morgan had a present. Then we looked round the shop and looked at the rabbits and pigs; we had a very nice time.

East Surrey College

This is a photo of the college. To my mind it looks rather like a biscuit warehouse! This is the part where I have lectures, print photos etc. As it's the 'reigate college of art design and media', one would have thought that the style might be more adventurous. However, the course is interesting.

Walk Thru the Bible at Woodmansterne

On Saturday 19 November I lead thirty people in a walk through the Old Testament in this church. I can tell you that it's pretty tiring walking from the Garden of Eden to Jerusalem via Egypt and Babylon!

Photography course

This week I have started an HND course in photography. So far it has been very interesting. It's a pity that I started late. This was because I have a facility on my phone that stops people who don't leave their number from getting through. The college tried to ring me back but couldn't. However, now I'm under way.

Bus crash

I heard on the local radio station (BBC Southern Counties - Sussex) that a bus had crashed in Bewbush, part of Crawley. Happily nobody was badly hurt. I drove over to see what had happened. It's amazing that the person in the house was unscathed.

Windfall!

I was at the camera club last night and when I came out I found that a branch had fallen from a tree and landed on my car! There was a great starburst right in front of me on the windscreen and, I found this morning, some dents in the roof - hey ho! So that's all got to be fixed, but I 'only' have to pay £100 excess on my insurance. I should have gone on my bike - but it was raining.

At the London bike show

On Friday I went to the bike show at the new(ish) exhibition centre, ExCel, beside the former Victoria dock in East London. There were lots of fun things to see but I think that the old venue, the Business Design Centre in Islington, was better; it was more quirky and cosy. But no doubt those who were there to sell their wares like the new venue better. The bike that really caught my eye was on the second stand I looked at. It is produced by Parapel Ltd but is only in the prototype stage at the moment. It's a recumbent bike that works by pushing the pedals forward which are returned by a spring. The gearing is automatic and infinately variable. Looks just the sort of 'stand out in a crowd' sort of thing I like.

I have just knocked a brick out of the porch (on purpose) and fitted the new letter box. I've had the box for about a year now and I've just plucked up enough courage to fit it. I always imagine that disaster will strike whenever I try any DIY jobs, so I don't do any as a rule. I think that Paul, my postman, will be pleased at not having to try to squeeze stuff through the tiny slot in the front door.
